BRITISH TERRORIST UPDATE

Michelle Malkin and Allah Pundit have all kinds of new information on the captured terrorists in Britain.

Some of the terrorists have been named. Guess what they have in common? Take a look. From Malkin’s site:

Umir Hussain, 24, London E14
Muhammed Usman Saddique, 24, London E17
Waheed Zaman, 22, London E17
Assan Abdullah Khan, 22, London E17
Waseem Kayani, 28, High Wycombe
Waheed Arafat Khan, 24, London E17
Cossor Ali, 24, London E17
Tayib Rauf, 21, Birmingham
Ibrahim Savant, 26, London E17
Osman Adam Khatib, 20, London E17
Shamin Mohammed Uddin, 36, Stoke Newington
Amin Asmin Tariq, 23, London E17
Shazad Khuram Ali, 27, High Wycombe
Tanvir Hussain, 24, London E10
Umar Islam, 28, (born Brian Young) High Wycombe
Assad Sarwar, 25, High Wycombe
Abdullah Ali, 26, London E17
Abdul Muneem Patel, 17, London E5
Nabeel Hussain, 21, Waltham Forest

I’ll let you figure it out.

According to the Daily Telegraph, the assets of the terrorists have been frozen.

“The Bank of England … has today directed that any funds held for or on behalf of the (19) individuals … must be frozen, and that no funds should be made available, directly or indirectly to any person, except under the authority of a licence,” the bank said today.

“Financial institutions and other persons are requested to check whether they maintain any accounts or otherwise hold any funds, other financial assets, economic benefits and economic resources for the individuals named in the Annex and, if so, they should freeze the accounts or other funds and report their findings to the Bank of England.”

Time magazine is reporting that U.S. intelligence officials picked up conversation among the terrorists and passed this on to Scotland Yard and MI5.

In the two or three days before the arrests, the cell was going operational, and authorities were pressed into action. MI5 and Scotland Yard agents tracked the plotters from the ground, while a knowledgeable American official says U.S. intelligence provided London authorities with intercepts of the group’s communications.

Gasp! We are listening in on terrorists’ phone calls and conversations?? How dare we violate their rights!

Sorry, but they don’t have rights, and even if they did, the right of the unknown number of innocent people who would have been killed to live trumps the “rights” of these terrorist scum to conduct their evil plots without being discovered.

Allah Pundit reports that money was wired from Pakistan to London and asks:

Were some of the suspects pinched by following a money trail? Was the SWIFT program involved? And if so, does this prove that we were right about terrorists not having known of the program’s existence, or does it vindicate the Times’s decision to publish the story given the fact that the jihadis here weren’t tipped off by it?

I guess it depends upon when the money was wired.

I guess we will find out the answer to that as the story unfolds. I am betting on the first part, since the money had to have been in the possession of the terrorists for a longer period of time than just since the revelation of the SWIFT program by al-New York Times.

The Independent is reporting that, contrary to initial reports which said the planes would be blown up over several U.S. cities, the planes would have been destroyed over the Atlantic Ocean in order to eliminate evidence and make the planes seemingly “disappear” without a trace.

The suicide bombers allegedly intended to carry out three “phased” attacks on nine or 10 jets over a period of several months. The plan, it is understood, was to blow up the aircraft over the sea so that investigators would be unable to discover how the explosive - possibly a peroxide-based liquid explosive - was taken through the airport security without being detected. A counter-terrorist source said: “This had the potential to be bigger than the 9/11 attacks [on the US].”

Both Malkin’s and Allah’s blogs have tons of informative links as well as insightful commentary on the developments

  • I’m calling bullshit on this:
Gasp! We are listening in on terrorists’ phone calls and conversations?? How dare we violate their rights!

No liberal has ever said that the feds cannot or should not monitor suspected terrorists’ communications, or that such surveillance is a violation of their rights. All we have ever asked is that it be done within the scope of the law.

I feel very bad for you if you are so scared that you’re willing to abandon the rule of law.

  • It’s been done that way, but if you give me the choice between the so-called rule of law and protecting the lives of innocent civilians from terrorist scum, I’ll take saving the lives of the civilians every time.

The rights of those people to live trumps an arguably non-existent (since terrorists aren’t citizens anyway) rights of terrorist scum to conduct their assaults without detection.

  • You’re right. I suppose it was really shitty for the administraion to bother with the FISA warrants for their part of the investigation, too. Why do they even bother to condescend that way? Why appease the ACLU?

  • The point that you lefties are missing is this: this is NOT a criminal/law enforcement matter. This is war. We fought it your way in the 1990s and got hit over and over again.

But I might as well go out and explain it to the fucking tree on my goddamn parkway. I have a better chance of making it understand that.

I guess we have to have another major hit inside the US before some people get their fucking heads out of the sand like the bunch of goddamn ostriches.

  • Yeah. It’s so irresponsible that British law enforcement stopped the plot.

It’s clear that the US needs to invade England militarily to root out all the terrorists over there.

  • This was broken up by counterterrorism actions by the US and Britain and Pakistan. WHy do you guys care so fucking much about people who will cut your head off at a moment’s notice given a chance? I don’t give a flying fuck about them. I want them dead or at least stopped before they can kill me. And I don’t give a damn how it’s done.

  • What, again, you’re not going to let my comments through?
