JIHADIST PRESS STRIKES BACK
Apparently al-Associated Press isn’t going to go gently into that good night.
Associated (with Jihadists) Press defended using jihadists as stringers for its stories as well as figures in the Iraqi police force whose existence cannot be proven.
In addition, Kathleen Carroll, executive editor of al-AP, lashed out against bloggers questioning its integrity, referring to the bloggers critical of al-AP as “chickenhawks,” saying:
It’s awfully easy to take pot shots from the safety of a computer keyboard thousands of miles from the chaos of Baghdad.
Rather than produce the so-called member of the Iraqi police force that no one has seen and of whom there is no proof of existence, al-AP chooses to attack those who are questioning it. Among that group is the Iraqi Interior Ministry.
There’s been overwhleming evidence of jihadists using Western media to spread propaganda all over the Middle East — as well as evidence of the Western media’s willing complicity in producing and spreading enemy propaganda. In other words, they’re in on it. A wink and a nod relationship.
Allahpundit has commentary and links here.
He offers an easy way for al-AP to make this controversy all go away quickly:
[I}nstead of issuing these snide Friday broadsides, produce Jamil Hussein. Snap a few photos and put them on the wire. Or, if that would endanger him, arrange a meeting between him and someone from MOI. Or, if that would endanger him, between him and the Centcom press director. If Hussein feels safe enough to have himself identified by name, rank, and precinct in AP news reports, he should be willing to chat with an American officer for 20 minutes. It’s exceedingly strange and suspect that the AP has available to it hard evidence that would explode its critics charges, yet so far as we know it’s made no attempt to produce that evidence. Not once have they offered to supply anyone with concrete proof of Hussein’s existence. Why not?
Of Hussein, Allahpundit asks: “Where’s Waldo?”
We here at THEB thought we’d help al-AP a little by publishing a recent artist’s rendition of Jamil Hussein:
