SCHOOL COWARDS CANCEL MILITARY EVENT

Here’s yet another example of the linguini-spined cowards running our schools. As well as the pure, black, unadulterated hatred of the Left toward the U.S. military.

School officials in Forest Lake, Minn., canceled an event featuring returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan after receiving calls from antiwar moonbats complaining that it was a political event.

A national tour featuring decorated veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan won’t be stopping at Forest Lake High School today as planned, after school leaders abruptly canceled the visit.

Steve Massey, the school principal, said the decision to cancel was prompted by concerns that the event was becoming political rather than educational and therefore was not suitable for a public school.

He said the school had received several phone calls from parents and others, some of whom indicated that they may stage a protest if the event took place.

“The event was structured to be an academic classroom discussion around military service. We thought we’d provide an opportunity for kids to learn about service in the context of our history classes,” Massey said. “As the day progressed, it became clear that this was becoming a political event … which would be inappropriate in a public setting.

“We decided to cancel,” Massey said.

What an opportunity missed to demonstrate what heroes the members of our military are, and the linguini-spined cowards cave in to a few moonbats who threatened to protest the event. This is the same mentality that has resulted in Junior ROTC being kicked out of schools in other parts of the country as well as military recruiters being harassed and heckled at career events or even banned outright from participating.

The people who pursue this type of policy do not love this country. They, in fact, hate the United States of America and view the U.S. and the U.S. military as the chief sources of evil in the world. No, they do not support the troops nor are they patriotic.

The fact that they choose to live in a country they despise speaks volumes of their hypocrisy. They’ll take advantage of the freedoms this country offers then bash our leaders and our military at every opportunity.

Says Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive (H/T to Michelle Malkin):

The only politicization of the event came from the anti-military activists and their need to censor any message that shows the military and the war in anything but a negative light. So as usual the left has decided that they will shout down anyone who dares to believe that, like the vast majority of Americans, the military is our most-trusted institution. They know that if the students are exposed to these brave patriots they will think well of them and maybe even support their mission. That is anathema to them and so they began agitating and sadly the Principal caved. The very idea that the troops espouse a message that is somehow inappropriate is a sad commentary on the mental processes of these people, but sadder yet is that the leadership of a public school would favor their deranged yammerings over straight talk from our heroes.

Kathryn Jean Lopez at The Corner at NRO reports it was the DUmmies that harassed school officials.

From the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Kaherine Kersten (H/T to Charlie Sykes) writes:

At “Democratic Underground Forums,” there was an announcement of a press conference by various unidentified groups opposing the Vets for Freedom appearance. The announcement exhorted “Veterans for Peace” to oppose the appearance and listed contact info for Massey; school board president Bill Bresin, and the Forest Lake Area Schools district office. The post expressed “outrage” that Vets for Freedom was going to meet with students to “indoctrinate them on the joys of war.”

Shame on Forest Lake High administrators for caving to political pressure under the guise of preventing political pressure. Apparently, they only understand the sort of political pressure exerted by left-wing anti-war groups.

Since when can’t a vet return to his own high school and talk about his service to his country?

I’ll let Hegseth have the last word: “Are we saying that patriotism and duty and honor have no place in our public schools?”

Yes, Mr. Hegseth, that is exactly what they are saying.

And I will repeat it once again: not only do they not support the troops, they hate the troops and the country those troops represent.

By the way, feel the hate from the moonbats in the comments thread at Kersten’s blog. Childish, juvenile comments, insults, name-calling and potty humor. I truly believe the Left is unable to have an intellectual discussion about anything.
